Performance Studies international (PSi) Artistic Research Working Group 2025

 

TWO GATHERINGS

·       Online: 18 June 2025

·       In-Person: 11-15 December 2025 (as part of PSi #30: Cruzo, Cruising, Crossroads)

 

The Performance Studies international (PSi) Artistic Research Working Group (ARWG) welcomes proposals for its 2025 gatherings, which will take distinct formats over two separate timeframes.

 

Gathering #1 will be fully virtual and take place on Wednesday, 18 June 2025. 

Gathering #2 will be fully in-person as part of PSi #30: Cruzo, Cruising, Crossroads (https://www.psi-web.org/2024/09/23/psi-30-conference-call-for-proposals/), which will take place 11-15 December 2025 at the Universidade Federal do Ceará in Fortaleza, Brazil. 

 

We invite old and new members of PSi and the working group to join us at either or both of these crossroads.

 

The CFP for PSi #30 poses its “three X” theme in broad, complex and evocative terms, including all of the following: “secrecy, mystery, incognito, redaction, overwriting, an algebraic variable, an unknown value, non-binary gender, refusal, aphasia, disorder, error, intersectional pathways, intersecting diagonals, proliferating angles, multiplication, lack, blocked, out, hardcore sex, danger, a sacral point, a ‘something’, a ‘thing’, the unspecified, a target, a treasure, the vote, the kiss.”

 

Much of this territory is familiar and fertile for Artistic Researchers. For both of our 2025 gatherings, the ARWG will draw upon these diverse intersections to further experiment with our evolving framework of performative offerings and responses. We invite our members to meet, engage, reframe and rearticulate one another’s preoccupations. 

·       Each participant is invited to offer a current preoccupation: a problem, a dilemma, a puzzle, a conundrum, a ‘pickle,' a Gordian knot – a question that they are exploring through their Artistic Research practice.

·       These preoccupations will then be ‘swapped,’ with each participant taking on another participant’s offering to be reframed and rearticulated through their own mode(s) of practice. 

 

IMPORTANT DATES

·       19 January 2025: Expression of interest/intention to participate in ONE or BOTH of our gatherings. While this is, of course, not binding, please explicitly specify which gathering(s) you hope to join.

 

June 18 Gathering:

·       18 March 2025: submission of 250 – 300 word description of a current Artistic Research preoccupation

·       1 April 2025: redistribution of submitted preoccupations by ARWG convenors

·       18 June 2025: online sharing of reframed preoccupations

 

December 11 – 15 Gathering:

·       26 September 2025: submission of 250 – 300 word description of a current Artistic Research preoccupation

·       10 October 2025: redistribution of submitted preoccupations by ARWG convenors

·       11-15 December 2025: in-person/onsite sharing of reframed preoccupations in Fortaleza, Brazil
