CALL FOR PROPOSALS Performance Studies international (PSi) Artistic Research Working Group 2027

 

In 2027 the Artistic Research Working Group plans to have two gatherings, and we invite past, present and future members of PSi and the working group to join us at one or both of these sessions.

 

2027 GATHERINGS

 

Gathering #1 will be fully virtual and take place online on June 16, 2027.

 

Gathering #2 will be fully in-person as part of PSi#32, which will take place 15-19 September 2027 with Performistanbul in Istanbul, Turkey. https://psi32.psi-web.org

 

The Call for Proposals for PSi #32 states 

 

Meydan, a word of Farsi origin now shared across Turkish, Kurdish, Arabic, and Farsi, means an open space, a gathering place, a common ground. It has its correspondence across languages and cultures: agora (αγορά) in Greek, forum in Latin, piazza in Italian, Platz in German, square/maidan in English, midan or maydan (ميدان) in Arabic, meydân (میدان) in Farsi, or meydani (μεϊντάνι) in Rumca, each word echoing its own history of gathering, collectivity, and public.

Thus, we invite artist researchers to enter an open space of curiosity, to share a common ground of creativity, and to gather in the spirit of meydan for an interactive forum of practices and preoccupations.

 

At both gatherings we will continue exploring our established Perform & Respond working method and develop it further to include Reflect as a third dimension. The two gatherings are independent, but both follow a similar procedure.

·       Each participant is invited to offer a current preoccupation: a problem, a dilemma, a puzzle, a conundrum, a ‘pickle,' a Gordian knot – a question that they are exploring through their Artistic Research practice.

·       These preoccupations will then be ‘swapped,’ with each participant taking on another participant’s offering to be reframed, rearticulated and performed through their own mode(s) of practice. 

·       Each participant is then invited to reflect upon the reframing and response to their own problem or question, which they have witnessed at the gathering.

IMPORTANT DATES

 

On-line Gathering, 16 June 2027:

·       16 April 2027:  submission of 250 – 300 word description of a current Artistic Research preoccupation with links to media

·       16 May 2027: redistribution of submitted preoccupations by ARWG convenors

·       16 June 2027: online sharing of reframings and reflections

 

In-person meeting in Istanbul 15-19 September:

·       1 July 2027: submission of 250 – 300 word description of a current Artistic Research preoccupation with links to media

·       1 August 2027: redistribution of submitted preoccupations by ARWG convenors

·       15-19 September 2027: sharing in Istanbul of reframings and reflections
